Today was the first day of the new job. It's a Java developer job, doing some maintenance and minor enhancements for a workforce management software company. A bit of a busy day, meeting people I barely remember, getting introduced around. And getting some semblance of a useful environment on the puter set up. I'm not sure about that.
Given the audience/market, and considering that I'm starting off doing maintenance behaviour, I'm going to be restricted to Win-splat for at least a while due to needing to primarily support IE. That's not so bad, I guess. I mean, I've already put Firefox and Cygwin on the box for a more rational environment. Can't do much about "LookOut!", though. Unless I can find an IMAP/POP relay inside the LAN.
It's the rather cheap monitor, keyboard and mouse that could prove more annoying. We shall see.
The company is pretty big on supporting additional activities, such as charities and sports teams and the like. It seems like a decent place to work, and I'm not overwhelmed yet.
