(continued from previous rock)

We rolled out of bed a bit later than expected on Saturday. I guess it shouldn't surprise me all that much. It was a con, after all. </a></strong></a>kishorwolf and I prowled the dealer's room and the art show. We spent a while perusing tails, and I picked up a nifty one that's somewhat more Lab-like than the previous one I had (though it's still not quite right). Also something else, which I'm not mentioning here because then that would spoil the surprise for my favourite 'yena. (</a></strong></a>augie_hyena) --evil chuckle--

Kevin and Virginia together on a panel is... an experience. The title of the panel sort of... er... set the tone — "'Are my tits too high?' The do's and don'ts of drag". Virginia has the extensive experience of being a model, an actress and a fashion editor to provide some lovely stories on what does not work. Of course, I'm not likely ever appear in drag (not without a six-figure payment at least), but the tales were fun, and some of the advice on movement was amusingly like some of the things I've learned myself while wearing a kilt (which was, of course, the de riguer apparel for the convention — Kishor looked especially good in his).

Gaylaxicon uses the same panel timing that Baycon does: one hour panels starting at intervals of 90 minutes. This means that the panels actually are an hour, and the panelists (and everyone else) gets a chance to catch their breath between panels. Most sane.

Another meal, in the adequate hotel restaurant. Not stunning, but quite acceptable. The whole hotel is done up in a pseudo-Hawaiian/Polynesian theme. It was a competition between the hotel and the con to see who was more tacky/kitschy. With the recorded birdsong in the atrium, I think the hotel had quite a head start.

After dinner, we wandered over to the charity auction, for the SFWA Emergency Medical Fund. David Gerrold was presiding as auctioneer.

Kishor is so cutely innocent some times. He went ahead to look at the items up for auction. I was chatting with Virginia about meditation techniques or something like that. When I entered the room they were setting up for the auction, I found the silly woof nicely outfitted in a ball gag mask. Not that I was going to complain much. Apparently he put it on himself. How much encouragement David and the auction staff provided, I'll never know. Even so... Kishor really should have known better. --evil grin--

Once he was properly fitted, there was no way I was going to let him out of it without having a little fun... NO, not like that. Get your minds out of the gutter. I wouldn't do something like that. Not in the auction room, at least. He ended up modelling for the auction. The folf's face and ears turn the most amazing colour when he's blushing. The mask fitted him rather well, and I ended up buying it for us... er... him... er... something. So he had to wear it for a bit longer during the evening. --snickers-- Of course, there are pictures...

After that amusing diversion, there was the Masquerade. It was short, but quite entertaining. Then the Saturday parties began. We ended up staying out very late indeed. Kishor got to sample a drink called an "Expanding Cosmo". Again, he might have known better than to slam them. We did explain that they were basically "vodka, vodka, vodka, and colour" (the vodkas being differently-flavoured types). Once again, we got a fair amount of attention, and it all worked out well. We finally swaggered back to the room about 0430.

It's odd about conventions. Every day seems to start later than the one before... Sunday was no exception. Venturing forth from the hotel room just about in time for checkout. Then finding a place for breakfast without the $30 Easter Sunday Brunch... Then another panel and prowling the dealer's room one last time. Eventually, though, Kishor had to leave. Bah. Curse closing ceremonies! Ah well, it won't be too long till the next con. Unfortunately, Califur decided to run on the same weekend. Since I've been summoned to Baycon by her Cheebleness herself, I must decline Califur. But I can definitely use it as an excuse to spend additional time in the area.

Pictures of the con are also available.
